Mobiiliverkot tien päällä

Line provided Wihuri with a global working platform and a modern telephone system with MS Teams.

Wihuri is an international Finnish conglomerate active in trade and industry. In 2018, the Group’s turnover was approximately EUR 1.9 billion and it had approximately 5 200 employees. The company is headquartered in Kulosaari, Helsinki.

“I would never have thought that an IT project could be so successful. The project remained on schedule and on budget. And collaboration with Line Carrier’s experts went very well. We reviewed ideas and requirements together, and Line Carrier reacted to them quickly,” says Juha-Matti Heino, CIO at Wihuri.

At the outset Wihuri had a more traditional phone system that needed newer technology and cost-efficiency. The company was already using Microsoft Teams, a teamwork application that they wanted to use more effectively.

Microsoft Teams transforms into a phone system

The solution was found in Line Carrier Voice for MS Teams, which made it possible to replace the old phone system and create a global working environment for the entire group. Line Carrier complemented the Teams solution with its own cloud-based services, which provided the necessary additional features such as call forwarding tools, international numbering, call recording and clear reporting.

We chose to embark on this project with a relatively unknown company because we already had positive experience of the Group’s services. Our collaboration will continue and develop with Line Carrier and with the Group as a whole.

The project covered a total of 9 countries in Europe and several sites in Finland. Minor challenges were the acquisition of the necessary data from local operators in different countries and the Covid-19 pandemic, which affected project schedules. At its peak, remote meetings were held more than ten times a week to stay on schedule and to ensure that the roll-out of several countries could be completed in the same week.

Deployments carried out late in the evening, ensuring uninterrupted service for users during periods of service overload.

Communication solutions from a familiar house

Wihuri Oy had previously outsourced its exchange management and part of its support to Line Carrier’s sister company, Avaca Oy.

“We chose to embark on this project with a relatively unknown company because we already had positive experience of the Group’s services. Our collaboration will continue and develop with Line Carrier and the Group as a whole,” says Juha-Matti Heino.
